Sorry once again for the lack of posts everyone. I will definitely make more of an effort to posting more, which brings me to the next order of business. I'm in the process of moving over to Tumbler. Though I have been extremely happy with Blogspot, I feel that it's time to switch over. I will let you all know when the switch happens.

In the meantime, I want to share this with you: The making of Amon Tobin's new live show called ISAM. I'm quite excited, and if you live in the city where he will be visiting, go check out his show. By the looks of this video it will blow your mind. I'm hoping that I can get tickets to the Montreal show when he visits Canada.

Amon Tobin is certainly one of my favorite electronica DJs. It's always been an amazing experience going to his shows. Hope you all get to see it.

Stanley Kubrick has long been one of my favorite filmmakers. My admiration for him as a filmmaker started when I saw A Full Metal Jacket. Barry Lyndon is probably my favorite film of his. The reason for this was because the cinematography was amazing. Shooting scenes using candles as its only light source was mind blowing. Below is a short animated piece that displays the director's filmography.

Manchester Orchestra - "Simple Math"

With "Music" channels like, MTV and MuchMusic, airing less and less music video, it's refreshing to see videos like this on the internet.

An incredibly well crafted music video, Manchester Orchestra's, "Simple Math" is the way a music video should be made. The video has a moving storyline and intricate camera work, that makes you wonder how they did it. Finely crafted videos like this makes me want to buy the album. To me, it also signifies that there's a good chance that the album will be good. Can't wait to get their album and listen to it to death.

Kudos to Manchester Orchestra and to the director, Daniel Schienert for creating an amazing song and an amazing video to go with it.

It's been almost a month since I last posted something on here. I've been thinking about what this blog should be about and what I should write about. Until I figure what it is that I want to do with this blog, I'll continue to post interesting videos that I see on the internet.

Like this one, for example. The title of this video is called, A Brief History of Title Design. It was shown at this years' SXSW festival in Austin. It was a presentation video for the Excellence in Title Design competition screening.

Title design for a film or television show is really overlooked. I think the title sequence is important because it plays a role in setting the tone of a film.

The video showcases some of the best in title design and I hope you enjoy this as much as I have.

Sorry for not posting in a while. I've recently changed jobs and things have been busy with my freelance work. Anyhow, the final installment in the series of longboard videos called "Surfing the City," has got me (really) interested in purchasing a longboard to ride around the city of Toronto. Conor Harrington is an artist from Ireland, who in May 2010 went on a trip to Tel Aviv, Isreal and Bethleham, Palestine. Andrew Telling went along and documented the artist at work. She & Him, is a folk band consisting of Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward. I've been a fan of Zooey Deschanel since I saw her in The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. When I heard that the two were releasing an album together, I was intrigued. And when I heard their first album, Volume One, I liked it.

Below is a video off their second album titled, Volume Two. The song is called, Don't Look Back. I really like the set design in this video. All the pieces look really well designed, and I think it shows us a little bit of their personality.

While on the Matador Network, earlier this week, I came across this really interesting and quite intriguing article. It's about traveling not on a plane, not by train, and yes, not by automobile.

It's traveling by cargo ship. That's so wild! What an interesting way to travel. I've traveled for a long time, and never have I thought about traveling this way. Read the article here.

Jaws (Pe'ahi) is located on the island of Maui, Hawaii. It's a place where tow-in surfing is popular and it's one of the places where big wave surfer go. Waves can reach 120 ft and you could be moving as fast as 50 km/h. If you surf Jaws, it means you're pretty darn good at the sport. I suck at the sport. I get nervous (and a little frightened) when I get on a 10 ft wave, so I have a very, very long way to go before I even start thinking about surfing Jaws.

Surfing Jaws seems scary during the day, but Mark Visser surfed it at night! Check out this clip from an upcoming documentary series called, "9 Lives."

Europe is perhaps my favorite continent to visit. The history in this continent is so rich. The architecture is beautiful. You can visit a different counties with a different cultures without traveling far. How awesome is that? But many of us tend to visit these places when the weather is warmer. Which is understandable, there are more things to do and experience.

As a graphic designer, it's frustrating when some clients wonder why things take so long to make and why the piece costs so much to make. I try and explain to them why, and is usually met with a blank look and a stare. Any other designers find this frustrating?

If I could, I would go there every chance I got.

I've been a little bit obsessed with murals lately. Mainly because I want to do one in my apartment, but haven't figured what to draw yet, as well, I don't want to repaint my wall when I move out. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can go around that, besides putting a crap lode of paper on my wall?

Anyhow, his time-lapsed mural done by Mike Nowland (Company Policy) and Carson Ting (Chairman Ting) has certainly given me some ideas as to what I want to draw.

Didn't realize that these people existed. Directed by, Gabriel Leigh (a Frequent Flyer himself), "Frequent Flyer" is a documentary that features those that collect points to travel for free and to maintain a certain status within an airline. I love that this Vancouver-based sandwich shop is called Meat & Bread. So fitting. Their visual identity, created by Glasfurd & Walker, is well done. I love how they treated the animal icons. If life is a catwalk, run like a dog.

"'Nowhere Near Here' is a stop motion animation that uses a combination of light with stencils and long exposure photography to tell the story of a dog running around the city at night, doing whatever a dog does."

This video took over 300 hours to make, using more than 200 stencils. It was created by Pahnl in the Uk,

Record label, Ninja Tunes carries (and have had) some of the best DJs and musicians. Some of my favorites on this label are DJ Food, to Mr. Scruff and The Herbaliser (now with !K7). From Ninja Tunes comes "Ariel," this video by Stateless, a DJ from the UK. It's a beautiful song, accompanied by an equally beautiful and amazing video. The video was done by Field.

Tron Legacy Projection Mapping

Disney and HP ePrint teamed up to promote the upcoming (and highly anticipated) Tron sequel, Tron: Legacy, by using Projection Mapping. It's appearing more and more and I feel that it's a great way to market a product or even to do an outdoor installation piece.

Back in September Swedish super-giant clothier, H&M announced their next collaboration. This next one will be with equally super-giant French label, Lanvin. With their other collaborations with famous labels (Karl Lagerfeld, Rei Kawakubo (Comme des Garçon), Stella McCartney, Roberto Cavalli, and Sonia Rykiel), this next project will indeed be a success.

Christmas Wish List #2: Wallets.

I need a new wallet. My current one is hanging on by a thread. I didn't want to be one of those people who duct tape their wallets to extend their life span. The edges of my wallet are getting frayed and I hate it and am embarrassed to take it out in public.

Anyhow, I've found a couple of wallets that have really caught my eye. Can't decided on which one to get, because they are both so different and at the same time really well designed.

This first one is from an Australian company called DOSH. Their wallets are "moulded in desmopan, a highly durable, water resistant polymer material." I love the look of their wallets. It's so sleek and simple, yet the manufacturing processes seems really complex. All the materials used in their wallets are recyclable.

This next wallet is equally great. There isn't really much to say about this wallet other than it's from Jack Spade and it's made from cork!! Here's hoping that if I decide to get this wallet, that no one sticks push pins on it.

As Christmas vast approaches (is it that time of year already?) one can't help but think of what they want for Christmas. So from now until Christmas I'll be compiling a list of things that I wish for this year.

The first thing on my list is a bag. I've been wanting to get an overnight, or weekender bag for quite some time, but haven't quite found the one I want ... until now. There are several bags on my list. Here is the first.

This is an overnight bag by Freitag. Hailing from Zurich, Switzerland, the brothers (Markus and Daniel), design and create beautifully designed and crafted bags and accessories. The medium sized Overnight bag is a beautiful bag. Its shape and colour is what drew me to them. They have some other nice bags and accessories. You should check out their stuff.

"One of the most talked about installations at the 12th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice was Cloudscapes. Japanese architect Tetsuo Kondo and a German climate engineering firm Transsolar came together to put a cloud in a large interior space called the Corderie, a 316-meter-long space where ropes for Venetian ships were made. Visitors to the exhibit can walk through the cloud via a circular ramp that ascended 4.3 meters high. This feat of climate engineering is produced by blowing three layers of air into the space at different temperatures. Cool dry air at the bottom layer keeps the cloud up; warm, humid air in the middle creates the dense fog; hot, dry air sits on top. "A Skate Regeneration" ft. Killian Martin

Now I'm not an expert on skateboarding by any means, I just enjoy watching the videos. For a while I loved the tricks Rodney Mullins was doing, and for a while he was one of my favorite skateboarders (is that the correct term? I don't know). But I stumbled upon this video called, "A Skate Regeneration," and a guy named Killian Martin. The things that he could do with a skateboard is quite incredible. I think he is quickly become one of my favorites to watch.

Making the Field Notes 2010 Fall Edition

Over at Kitsune Noir's site, I stumbled upon this video about the making of the Field Notes notebooks. If you love letterpress prints or if you want to see how a book is made then take a look at this video. The printer uses a Heidelberg offset printing press. So much fun. I really do want to learn how to print using this method.

D'Espresso Cafe

For those of you who have seen the film, Inception (for those who haven't I say to you "For Shame!"), There's a scene where Joseph Gordon Levitts' character is in a hallway of a hotel fighting off badies, and wrapping up his friends with a telephone wire. What was interesting about those scenes were the fact that as he was fighting and wrapping, the hallways were rotating. Where suddenly the floor was the ceiling and the ceiling was the floor (it was a terrific scene and a little bit trippy, I might add).

I mention this, why?

Well, there's a café in New York, on Madison Ave. called, D'Espresso Café. The interior (done by Nema Workshop) of this café reminds me of that scene. It's wild, amazing, and a little bit trippy. For those of you who do not know what I am talking about, again I say to you, "For Shame!."

Have you ever seen the film "Down With Love," with Ewan Mcgregor and Renee Zellweger?
Now take the art direction in that film, add a bit of whimsy of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the coolness of Roman Coppola's "CQ" and you'll have this visually cool, very mod commercial for Stella Artois. It's in French, so I have no idea what they're saying, but good none-the-less.

I Want The World To Stop - Belle & Sebastian

In an earlier post, I had mentioned that there was a new Belle & Sebastian album coming out. Well, I haven't heard or bought the album yet, but if their lead-off single is any indication as to what the album will be like, then I would have to say that I am ecstatic.

Their lead-off single is called "I Want The World To Stop." I think it's a pretty interesting video. It's a performance video cut in with black and white footage. It reminds me of a Francis Truffaut or a Jean Luc Goddard film.

Anyhow, can't wait to buy and listen to this album.

Amazing iPad Animation

It was recently Thanksgiving in Canada. I celebrated this holiday with copious amounts of Turkey, veggies and pies ... oh and some red wine. My family doesn't really celebrate Thanksgiving, so it's always an honour and a treat when a family invites me over to their house.

Anyhow, came across this video on Youtube. It's really quite amazing. This video has just amplified my desire for an iPad.
